Orcas, or killer whales, are the largest of the dolphins and one of the world's most powerful predators.
Orcas are immediately recognizable by their distinctive black-and-white coloring. White at the bottom, black at the top, and of course the white pattern near it eyes.
Orca is called a killer whales, but it wasn't in a family of whale. Orca is in the dolphin family.Orca is the largest one in the dolphin family.
They feast on marine mammals such as seals, sea lions, and even whales.They are known to grab seals right off the ice. They also eat fish, squid, and seabirds.
The killer whale's teeth are very strong and its jaws exert a powerful grip; the upper teeth fall into the gaps between the lower teeth when the mouth is closed. Orca has many large teeth that can be four inches long.
Killer whales are considered a cosmopolitan species, and can be found in each of the world's oceans in a variety of marine environments, from Arctic and Antarctic regions to tropical seas.
Orcas hunt in deadly pods, family groups of up to 40 individuals. All of the different groups may prey on different animals and use different techniques to catch them.
One pod tend to prefer fish, while other pod target marine mammals. All pods use effective, cooperative hunting techniques that some liken to the behavior of wolf packs. They use echolocation to communicate and hunt, making sounds that travel underwater until they encounter objects, then bounce back, revealing their location, size, and shape.
Orcas are protective of their young. Mothers give birth every three to ten years, after a 17-month pregnancy.
In fact, they're one of the most intelligent animal, this animal is trainable, that's why many aquarium that shows the orca show.
